NextNet Revolutionizes the Economics for Delivery of High-Speed Mobile Data with New Public Safety Product Line
100% of Mobile Data Project Dollars to Go Directly to Public Safety Vehicles
MINNEAPOLIS - January 11, 2005 -- NextNet Wireless, the world leader in commercially deployed
non-line-of-sight (NLOS) plug & play broadband wireless access systems, unveiled today a new high-speed mobile
data public safety product line, fully compliant with standard IP software applications. NextNet's new public
safety solution eliminates the need for costly proprietary software currently required to allow mobile operation
of a laptop computer. Following more than two years of successful demonstrations of high-speed mobility with
customers around the world, NextNet is pleased to announce the availability of its Mobile Subscriber Unit (MSU)
family of products for public safety and transportation.
“This new technology revolutionizes the economics for delivery of mobile data,” stated Guy Kelnhofer, NextNet
President and CEO. “It enables 100 percent of the mobile data project dollars to go directly to public safety vehicles.
We are extremely pleased to bring this mission-critical solution to market,” Kelnhofer added.
The MSU models are targeted to provide true broadband data rates in a NLOS system implementation for customers in the
transportation and public safety markets. These markets represent customers who require access to high-speed data applications,
while either mobile or in a mobile environment.
With the announcement of the new Mobile Subscriber Unit, NextNet now offers reliable high-speed vehicular data capability
for a wide range of mission-critical public safety and transit applications. MSUs operating on the Expedience™ network
provide the same services as NextNet's fixed subscriber units. These services include support of public and enterprise VPNs,
Internet browsing, and IP voice and video streaming, all while operating from vehicular installations.
This new wireless terminal is fully compatible with existing Expedience fixed wireless networks. As with all Expedience terminal
products, the MSU offers plug & play connection to attached computers with no special drivers required. The MSU is currently
in volume production, and is available for sale in the 3.5 GHz. band and MMDS band (pending FCC approval in the U.S.)
