NEXTNET ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY'S FIRST PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION OF NLOS BROADBAND WIRELESS ACESS IN-BUILDING PENETRATION

EXPEDIENCE™ NLOS SYSTEM TRANSMITS LIVE FROM ROOFTOP OF SAN JOSE TECH MUSEUM OF INNOVATION INTO THE FAIRMONT HOTEL AT WCA '02

Minneapolis, MN – January 14, 2002 — NextNet Wireless, developer of the industry’s first commercially-deployed non line-of-sight (NLOS) broadband wireless access system, announces the industry’s first public demonstration of NLOS broadband wireless access in-building penetration, at the Wireless Communications Association’s 8th Annual Technical Symposium, January 14-16, in San Jose. The Expedience system is transmitting live over MMDS frequencies from the rooftop of the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation, delivering high-speed Internet access into the San Jose Fairmont Hotel trade show floor.

“We are pleased to demonstrate the in-building penetration capabilities of a true NLOS broadband wireless access system,” stated Charles Riggle, NextNet vice president of marketing and business development. “We have eliminated the truck-roll installation, overcome multi-path interference, and provided consistent LAN-like speeds with extended coverage. We are extremely pleased to be working with the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation to present market-moving technologies that will change the way we live and work in the future,” Riggle concluded.

The Expedience NLOS system is currently commercially deployed to business and residential subscribers in Northern Iowa, through MMDS service provider Evertek, Inc.

Expedience system features include:
  • Consistent LAN-like speeds across industry’s greatest NLOS coverage area
  • Most spectrally efficient NLOS platform
  • Scalable architecture that can be deployed at one-third the cost of cable or DSL
  • Portable, indoor plug-and-play subscriber units for cell radius’ up to 5 miles
  • Convenient outdoor bracket-mount subscriber units for business and extended range cell radius’ up to 20 miles
  • Bandwidth that doesn’t compromise coverage
  • Solutions for business, residential, city and rural markets
