NEXTNET WIRELESS RECEIVES FCC AND INDUSTRY CANADA APPROVALS FOR ITS EXPEDIENCE NON-LOS BROADBAND WIRELESS SYSTEM
CERTIFICATION PAVES THE WAY FOR RAPID, LOW COST COMMERCIAL ROLLOUTS
Minneapolis, MN — June 25, 2001 — NextNet Wireless, developer of the
industry's first non-line-of-sight broadband wireless access system, with
indoor, user-installable customer premise equipment, announced today that
it has received regulatory approvals from the Federal Communications Commission
(FCC), and Industry Canada for its Expedience™ Base Station (BTS-2500),
and Broadband Wireless Access Modem (RSU-2510).
NextNet's customer-installable, indoor subscriber unit is a key component
of the Company's Expedience™ non-line-of-sight broadband wireless access
system. The fully-integrated RSU-2510 subscriber unit performs the functions
of a high-speed modem, RF transceiver and antenna, and supports an indoor
operational range of up to five miles. These features, unique to the Expedience
platform, allow MMDS carriers to achieve high subscriber penetrations,
low infrastructure costs, and fast easy rollouts to residential and small
business subscribers.
"The type approval of our broadband wireless modem for use in the
home and small office further validates NextNet's non-LOS technology,
and paves the way for commercial rollouts this summer," stated Gregory
Kaster, NextNet vice president of operations. "Our compliance with
FCC and Industry Canada regulations allows carriers to confidently deliver
new and differentiated broadband services to U.S. and Canadian subscribers
using their licensed spectrum," Kaster concluded.
The Expedience system is currently shipping for pilot deployments, with
large volume production scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2001.
