Grand Forks Wireless Plans for Nationwide Expansion Over MMDS

MINNEAPOLIS—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 25, 2002—NextNet Wireless, developer of the industry's first commercially deployed non line-of-sight (NLOS) broadband wireless access system, and Grand Forks Wireless, Inc., announced today that NextNet's Expedience™ NLOS system is delivering high-speed Internet service to residential and business subscribers in Yuma, AZ. Grand Forks Wireless holds the MMDS (2.5 to 2.686 GHz) licenses in Yuma and several other markets throughout the U.S., and plans to expand its deployment of NextNet's Expedience system nationwide.

"We examined several second-generation technologies side-by-side, including CDMA, and chose NextNet's OFDM platform because of its proven superior NLOS coverage and capacity, its ease of installation, and its system economics," said Phil Merrill of Grand Forks Wireless.

"We are pleased to be working with Grand Forks Wireless to deliver competitive broadband access to new markets in the U.S.," said NextNet vice president of marketing and business development Charles Riggle, "Grand Forks Wireless is a progressive operator that shares NextNet's goal of making affordable broadband access a reality," added Riggle.

The Expedience NLOS system has been commercially deployed in the U.S. and abroad since December 2001, and was recently selected for the world's largest NLOS broadband wireless deployment in Mexico City, commencing in August 2002.
