Clearwire Launches Simple and Portable High-Speed Broadband
Internet Service in Ireland
Dublin, Ireland (Oct. 24, 2005) -- Clearwire, a high-speed wireless broadband Internet service provider led by U.S. telecommunications pioneer, Craig McCaw, has launched commercial service in selected cities in Ireland. The company's Ireland market will initially provide service in Dublin, Bray, Carlow, Drogheda, Dundalk, Galway, Maynooth, Nass, Newsbridge, Swords and Waterford.
"We're building a strong, high-speed network in Ireland," Clearwire chief technology officer and founding director Brent Smith commented at the launch. "Our immediate focus is Dublin and six regions. However, we have aspirations to build and operate a national network."
Clearwire is currently available in 22 markets across the U.S., and has launched service in Belgium and Denmark. The company plans to roll out additional service markets in the coming months.
Clearwire's wireless Internet service is simple to use and easy to install. If you buy it today, you can use it today. No cable or telephone wires are necessary. Business or Residential customers simply take the specially designed receiver unit -- which is about the size of a paperback book -- plug it in to their computer and they're up and running; they can access the Internet anywhere within the Clearwire coverage area.
"Clearwire service is Instant Internet," said managing director Dan Churchill. "You just take it out of the box and plug it in. It's as simple as that. We've watched 10-year olds install it for their parents in a matter of five minutes. Irish customers currently using the service are amazed by the speed and the simplicity of getting on-line. They love the fact that the unit is so easy to pick up and move around the house, or to another area where there's Clearwire coverage. Gamers love it because of the low ping times and low latency connection. It's a perfect product for families, small businesses and individuals who don't want to be tied to their landline rental for a Broadband service."
"Clearwire allows Irish customers to access the Internet at high speeds in a reliable, nomadic way," added Smith. "There's is no need to wait for a technician to install the service or for software to download. Now Irish customers can move the simple-to-use, affordable and fast Internet service from one location to another within Clearwire's coverage area. They can use the service throughout their home, office, college, or a coffee shop. As long as there is a power source, high-speed Internet access is available."
McCaw, one of the first entrepreneurs providing cellular phone service in the U.S., grew his company, McCaw Cellular Communications, into the largest U.S. cellular service provider. The company was later acquired by AT&T.
Clearwire is utilizing next generation non-line-of-site technology, developed by its wholly owned subsidiary, NextNet Wireless, to connect customers to the Internet using radio spectrum. Clearwire service is now available immediately to businesses, families and individuals in key Dublin areas. Consumers can check their coverage by contacting Clearwire on 1800 882 333 or by logging on to www.clearwire.ie.
