Clearwire Wireless Broadband
Clearwire and Danske Telecom’s new wireless broadband network for home users up and running in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense

As the first supplier in Denmark, Clearwire Danmark launches the new wireless broadband which is totally independent of telephone lines, fibre cables and cable television. The new wireless broadband is delivered over the air directly to the user's computer or IP telephone at the same price as the old-fashioned copper line-based broadband solutions.

Copenhagen, Oct. 24, 2005 -- For the first time in Denmark more than half a million households and more than 25,000 small businesses can wave goodbye to troublesome broadband connections with delivery times of several weeks, waiting time in connection with on-site visits by technicians, complicated installation procedures or digging work, cables, etc. Now an Internet connection of up to 2 megabit per second can be delivered directly to the user on the same day, entirely without involving the existing telephone companies. Only a subscription and a small receiver are required to access the new wireless broadband. The receiver is placed on the table or on the window sill and is connected directly to the computer, an IP telephone or a wireless Hotspot. The WiMAXX® box and subscription are purchased over the Internet and as soon as the user has set up an account and the box has been connected to the computer, the user is linked up to the Internet. It has never been easier or quicker.

The new wireless broadband from Clearwire is operating in the licensed 3.5GHz frequency band, where Danske Telecom hold 2 nationwide licensed, granted by the National regulator. This will ensure the best possible quality of service and the highest capacity offer to the users.

As opposed to the popular Hotspots used in many private homes where limited range and lack of security result in limitations and insecurity, WiMAX is a professional and secure standard designed to cover large geographical areas such as towns and regions, quite similar to the mobile GSM networks we already know.

The WiMAXX® solution from Clearwire is preconfigured to the highest security level and all data are sent and received via a personal encrypted licensed connection that cannot be accessed by others. Therefore, there is no need to worry about the security of the new WiMAXX® solution; WiMAXX® offers maximum security and is consequently used by i.a. the police and rescue teams in the US, where there are very strict requirements regarding maximum security in connection with public and confidential communication.

At this initial stage, Danske Telecom and Clearwire will roll out WiMAXX® to the users in the three biggest towns in Denmark: Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense and the new broadband is operational from today. During the coming months the network will be expanded further and in 2006 it will be rolled out to a number of other Danish towns as well.

If you live outside the coverage area, you can, by signing up at Clearwire's homepage, help Clearwire and Danske Telecom determine which towns and areas the network should be deployed in over the coming quarters. In this way, the users have an opportunity to influence where WiMAXX® will be offered in the future.

Clearwire's new broadband solution can be connected throughout the coverage area, meaning that users can bring along their broadband connections and access the Internet wherever they are, provided they are within the coverage area. This offers new possibilities today and even more in the long term as the national and international coverage is increased. If you have access to 220 or 12 volt and are within the coverage area, you can bring along your broadband connection to your boat, to your allotment, to your car, to your friend's house or e.g. to the library if you are a student - there is an abundance of possibilities, as long as you stay within the coverage area. As the connection is a true broadband connection, it can also be used for IP telephony, thus making your IP telephony solution portable throughout the coverage area.

The standard price of a WiMAXX® BOX is DKK 1,499. The cost of setting up your account is DKK 250 and delivery will be made within a few hours or days depending on the address and requirements of the user. There are four different speeds, from 256 kilobit up to 2 megabit per second. The prices for a subscription range from DKK 199 to DKK 699 per month. Interested consumers can find more information about the new wireless broadband WiMAXX® as well as introduction prices at www.clearwire.dk.

"We expect great things from this new business area," says Peter Jerry Sørensen, managing director of Danske Telecom and Clearwire Danmark. Clearwire is already having success on a number of other European markets and in the US where Clearwire sets the industry standard for the new wireless broadband. "We want to prove worthy of a leading position on the market for mobile Internet for home users and businesses in Denmark and we feel that we have a good and simple concept that is easy to understand for the consumer, both in connection with getting started and in connection with performance and price," says Peter Jerry Sørensen.

WiMAXX® is a registered trademark of Danske Telecom.
